John started working at Utility Services and supporting companies with their NERC compliance program shortly after compliance became mandatory. The support provided has included developing new compliance programs as well as revising and updating programs that were already in place. Though still working with all of the NERC Standards, his primary focus has shifted to the NERC Standards that cover Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP). Though not a member of a NERC Standards Drafting Team (SDT), he has been an active participant in the standard drafting process for all versions of the CIP Standards beginning with version 3.
Industry Participation: Active member, including a 2-year term as the chairman, of the Northeast Power Coordinating Council’s Task Force-Infrastructure, Security & Technology. 8-year alternate member of the NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee. Speaker at multiple industry and regional compliance workshops
Industry Experience: 32 years in Cyber Security including 8 years in compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards.
